Allergen Guidance

For customers with food allergies, intolerances, or dietary concerns

This page is based on the Food Standards Agency allergen guidance for food businesses. It explains how allergen information should be handled and what customers should do before ordering.

Before you place an order

Please tell us about any allergy, intolerance, ingredient concern, or dietary requirement before completing checkout. If you are ordering for someone else, check their needs carefully before placing the order.

If we cannot safely prepare a dish for your needs, we may contact you to discuss alternatives or cancel the affected item.

The 14 allergens food businesses must declare

UK food businesses must tell customers when food contains any of these allergens as ingredients:

  • Celery
  • Cereals containing gluten, including wheat, rye, barley and oats
  • Crustaceans, such as prawns, crabs and lobsters
  • Eggs
  • Fish
  • Lupin
  • Milk
  • Molluscs, such as mussels and oysters
  • Mustard
  • Peanuts
  • Sesame
  • Soybeans
  • Sulphur dioxide and sulphites above the legal declaration level
  • Tree nuts, such as almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts, cashews, pecans, pistachios and macadamia nuts

Other ingredients can still matter

Some customers react to ingredients outside the 14 listed allergens. Tell us about any ingredient that is a concern for you, even if it is not listed above.

Delivery and takeaway orders

For online, phone, delivery and takeaway orders, allergen information should be available before the order is completed and again when the food is delivered. Written information is best supported by a direct conversation where needed.

Use the allergy section on the order form to tell us your requirements. You can also contact us before ordering if you need to discuss ingredients.

Cross-contamination

Food businesses must manage allergens carefully during storage, preparation and service. Good controls include keeping ingredients separate, using clean utensils, washing hands between tasks, and keeping recipes and ingredient records up to date.

Because Grillpeckers prepares different foods in the same kitchen environment, we cannot guarantee that any dish is completely free from traces of allergens. If cross-contamination cannot be ruled out for your request, we will tell you.

Free-from, gluten-free and vegan requests

A free-from claim must be supported by strict controls. Vegan food is not automatically free from animal-based allergens such as milk, egg, fish, crustaceans or molluscs, because low-level cross-contact can occur in some preparation environments.

Please contact us before ordering if you need a dish to meet a specific free-from, gluten-free, vegan, or allergen-sensitive requirement.
